Sept. 5 (UPI) – Stay attentive, fantasy football team owners! The Indianapolis Colts will be utilizing a running back committee approach in the absence of Jonathan Taylor, according to Coach Shane Steichen. Taylor, who is currently on the physically unable to perform list due to a contract dispute, is set to miss at least the first four games of the 2023 season.

In a press conference at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center in Indianapolis, Steichen expressed, “I think it’s running-back-by-committee. Whoever’s got the hot hand, let them ride a little bit and go with that.”

Deon Jackson, Zack Moss, and Evan Hull are the other running backs on the Colts’ roster. Last season, Jackson recorded 68 carries for 236 yards and a touchdown in 16 games. He also had 30 catches for 209 yards and a score.

In Week 6 of the 2022 season, Jackson made his first career start, running for 42 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, and catching 10 passes for 79 yards in a 34-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his second start in Week 9, a loss to the New England Patriots, he totaled 36 yards on 13 touches.

Moss was acquired by the Colts in a November trade with the Buffalo Bills. In eight games last season, he accumulated 377 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 80 touches. He started in the final three games, recording 18 carries for 114 yards and a score in Week 18.

Evan Hull, selected by the Colts in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, had 53 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries during the preseason.

The Colts’ upcoming opponents in the first four weeks include the Jaguars, Texans, Ravens, and Rams. The Jaguars defense ranked 12th against the run last season.

“We’ll rotate those guys in, see where everyone is at,” Steichen said. “Like I said, we will ride with the hot hand.”

Steichen expressed his belief that one Colts running back will emerge as the lead ball-carrier within the first four weeks, and the team will assess who is performing well and make decisions accordingly.

For fantasy football purposes, it is advisable to wait for more information before making decisions regarding the Colts’ running back situation.

Moss suffered a broken arm during training camp but is expected to return for Week 1. Injury reports for Sunday’s games will be released on Wednesday, providing further details on Moss’ availability.

The Colts will face the Jaguars at 1 p.m. EDT on Sunday in Indianapolis.
