Shane Burgos Falls to Clay Collard in PFL Semifinals

Shane Burgos suffered his first defeat in his home state as he faced Clay Collard in the PFL semifinals at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Collard emerged as the winner with a unanimous decision, advancing to the PFL championship event in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 24. Meanwhile, Olivier Aubin-Mercier secured his spot in the championship by winning the lightweight semifinal matchup against Bruno Miranda with a second-round TKO.

Despite missing the playoffs initially, Burgos got a second chance due to Natan Schulte’s suspension. However, Burgos struggled to catch up with Collard on the judges’ scorecards, facing an early deficit. While Burgos had moments of success, Collard dominated the first round with his offensive skills. Burgos managed to drop Collard briefly with a straight right hand but couldn’t maintain control. In the second round, Collard continued to land significant blows, causing damage to Burgos’ nose. Although Burgos fought back with leg kicks, Collard proved resilient and knocked him down. The third round showcased both fighters going toe to toe, with Burgos utilizing leg kicks to slow down Collard. Despite his efforts, Collard’s compromised leg didn’t hinder his performance enough, and the fight ended as a crowd-pleaser.

In addition to the lightweight division, the welterweight semifinals also took place on Wednesday. Magomed Magomedkerimov emerged as the victor, maintaining his top seed status, while Sadibou Sy earned a hard-fought victory over Carlos Leal.

The main card opened with a showcase of amateur fighter Biaggio Ali Walsh, grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali. Walsh secured a second-round TKO against Ed Davis, marking his fifth consecutive victory. Both Magomedkerimov and Sy, along with Walsh, will be competing for the $1 million championship in their respective divisions.
