‘Sex and the City’: Sarah Jessica Parker’s Shyness Prevented Her from Going Nude

  • Sarah Jessica Parker, known for her iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and the City,” revealed why she chose not to do nude scenes in the HBO show.
  • Parker explained that she simply didn’t feel comfortable with nudity.
  • Despite her concerns, creator Darren Star never pressured her into doing nude scenes.

Sarah Jessica Parker gained fame for her portrayal of writer Carrie Bradshaw in the bold and engaging “Sex and the City,” as well as its recent revival, “And Just Like That.”

However, Parker recently shared her reasons for abstaining from nude scenes, revealing that it was due to her personal discomfort.

During an interview on Howard Stern’s radio show, Parker was asked if she was the sole candidate for the role of Carrie when the series was being developed by creator Darren Star.

The 58-year-old actress explained that Star had written the character “with you in mind,” and while she found the script intriguing and unique, she harbored concerns about potential nude scenes.

“I thought the script was really interesting, and really exciting, and different, and fresh, and I’d never seen anything like that,” Parker shared. “The only thing I said to him that I was concerned about was that I just didn’t feel comfortable doing nudity, and I suspected that if it wasn’t in the pilot, it would be a part of a series.”

Parker expressed her gratitude that Star never pressured her into performing nude scenes.

“He said, ‘Don’t do it then… we’ll have other actors, if they feel comfortable doing it, they’ll do it, but you do not have to,'” she recalled.

Stern then inquired if Parker’s concerns were related to body image or fears of being perceived differently as an actress.

Parker clarified that her reservations were simply due to her personal discomfort with the idea of nudity.

“I think I just never felt comfortable exposing myself that way. I never had any judgments about anybody else doing it, it wasn’t like a morality thing… I was shy,” she added.
