Serial sex worker slayings lead to arrest of Texas man

Another alleged serial killer has emerged in Texas. Oscar Sanchez Garcia, a 25-year-old suspect, was apprehended on Wednesday and is facing three counts of murder in connection with the deaths of three women in Dallas between April and July. The victims were all discovered stabbed to death near the Trinity River in Dallas’ Oak Cliff neighborhood, according to reports from WFAA and USA Today. The first victim, 60-year-old Kimberly Robinson, was found on April 22 beneath a DART train bridge along the 200 block of Sante Fe Avenue. The second victim, 25-year-old Cherish Gibson, was discovered on June 24 in a grassy area near a DART station on the same block. The identity of the third victim, found on July 15 along the 800 block of Brazos Street, remains unknown, but she was located about a mile away from the other crime scenes.

Law enforcement officials revealed that at least two of the victims had ties to prostitution, and they made this information public the day before Garcia’s arrest to alert sex workers about the pattern, as reported by KXAS. While authorities have not disclosed a motive or provided details on the evidence linking Garcia to the case, the arrest brings relief to Kimberly Robinson’s daughter, Janetria Oliver, who expressed her gratitude that he is now unable to harm anyone else, according to WFAA. Bekah Charleston, a survivor of sex trafficking, spoke out about the dehumanization of sex workers, stating that they are often treated as commodities to be used and discarded. Garcia’s arrest follows that of another suspected serial killer who allegedly targeted sex workers on Long Island. Garcia, who was previously arrested in March for a domestic assault charge, has been assigned a $4 million bond. (Read more stories about serial killers.)
