Bed Bath & Beyond is implementing a final, innovative strategy to save one of its chains.
The company has announced a separate sale process for Buy Buy Baby, which is considered its most valuable asset, while simultaneously proceeding with the auction of Bed Bath & Beyond.
This separate sale process provides the company with additional flexibility to attract potential buyers who may be interested in keeping Buy Buy Baby stores operational and maximizing the offer price.
Buy Buy Baby has already generated interest from buyers, even prior to the parent company’s bankruptcy filing in April. During the ongoing sale process, several prospective bidders have expressed interest in preserving the physical presence of Buy Buy Baby, as reported by CNBC.
The auction for Buy Buy Baby’s assets is scheduled for June 28.
In contrast, the fate of Bed Bath & Beyond’s stores seems inevitable. The auction for the company’s assets will proceed on Wednesday.
Last week, Overstock.com offered $21.5 million for Bed Bath & Beyond’s assets, including its intellectual property, business, internet and mobile properties, and all business data. This bid will serve as the starting point for the auction.
The sale process was recently extended to allow discussions with potential stalking horse bidders who could establish the starting point for the auction.
Bed Bath & Beyond’s physical stores were considered less attractive to buyers, with more focus expected on its digital assets. The company made multiple attempts to turn its business around before ultimately filing for bankruptcy in April.
