Senators Set to Receive Groundbreaking Classified Briefing on Artificial Intelligence

Senators are set to engage in an unprecedented classified briefing on the topic of artificial intelligence, led by Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines and other esteemed administration officials. The session will commence at 3 p.m. on Tuesday within the secure confines of the Capitol’s sensitive compartmented information facility (SCIF).

Joining Haines at the briefing will be Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, Director of White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Arati Prabhakar, Director of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency Trey Whitworth, and Chief Digital Officer of the Defense Department, Craig Martell.

In a letter to his colleagues, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) revealed the upcoming briefing. He emphasized that it will provide valuable insight into “how we’re using and investing in AI to protect our national security and learn what our adversaries are doing in AI.”

This event is part of a series organized by Schumer in collaboration with Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
