Senators Question TikTok Regarding Data Storage and Access by China in the US

Two senators, Richard Blumenthal and Marsha Blackburn, have written to TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew demanding that the social media platform disclose whether China has the ability to store and access data relating to American users. The letter follows a Forbes report last month alleging that American users’ sensitive data, including social security numbers and tax identification information, was stored in accounts accessible to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Chew testified earlier this year before a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing at which he stated that the CCP did not have access to the data. The senators’ letter claims that TikTok has repeatedly provided “misleading, inaccurate, or false information” about data security to Congress and American users.
