Sen. Marsha Blackburn Suggests That Grandparents Should Be Armed and Guard Schools, Says Kayleigh McEnany

In an intriguing conversation with Kayleigh McEnany on Fox News, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) suggested an unconventional approach to safeguarding schools against shootings. She proposed recruiting armed military veterans, retired police officers, and even grandparents to form a protective force for schools. Watching this interview is a must! Check out the video below.

Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House press secretary under Donald Trump, was captivated as Blackburn discussed her compelling plan. Blackburn is an advocate for the SAFE Schools Act, a legislation she introduced after a tragic school shooting in Nashville earlier this year. The act aims to allocate $900 million for enhancing school security measures. However, critics argue that this proposal fails to address the fundamental issue of easy access to powerful firearms.

Blackburn explained, “By establishing a grant pool and facilitating collaboration between local school systems and law enforcement, we can involve veterans and retired officers as security personnel for schools. They possess the necessary weapon training and de-escalation skills. I’ve spoken to many of them, and they highly support this idea. As grandparents ourselves, my husband and I understand their desire to protect children.”

It’s worth noting that Blackburn had previously proposed a similar idea following a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, back in 2022, where law enforcement response was inadequate. Frustratingly, Blackburn expressed disappointment that Democrats have rejected her proposal, considering it to be a reliable solution. She claimed that her measure would fortify schools with features like bulletproof doors and window films, aiming to instill confidence in parents about their children’s safety.
