In the ongoing search for escaped murderer Danelo Cavalcante, the community surrounding Chester County Prison is on high alert. As the search enters its seventh day, Pennsylvania State Police state that even if their homes were in the search area, they would have their doors locked. According to CNN, there have been five credible sightings of Cavalcante within the original search radius. However, police expanded the search area on Tuesday. Initially focused within a two-mile radius of the prison, the perimeter was extended after Cavalcante was spotted Monday night at Longwood Gardens, a popular botanical garden located almost three miles south of the original perimeter.
The gardens, along with schools in the area, will remain closed on Wednesday. Surveillance cameras at the gardens captured Cavalcante’s presence twice within an hour, confirming that he still looks the same as when he escaped. However, he now carries new items, such as a hooded sweatshirt, a backpack, and a “duffel-sling type pack.” In a separate sighting, a homeowner believes they saw Cavalcante in their home on Friday night and claims he took food when he left. Other homes nearby have also been burglarized recently. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Cavalcante’s arrest, as reported by Delaware Online.
