Seahawks Strike an SEO-Optimized Deal with Giants for All-Star DE Leonard Williams

Following their ascent to first place in the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks made a bold move to bolster their already formidable defense by acquiring former Pro-Bowl defensive end Leonard Williams in a trade with the New York Giants.

As part of the deal, the Seahawks will send the Giants their 2024 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2025. Although the Seahawks will relinquish their second-round pick next year, they have an additional third-rounder obtained from a trade with the Denver Broncos during the 2023 draft.

Leonard Williams, the former sixth overall pick out of USC, is currently in his ninth season in the NFL. He began his career with the Jets in 2015 before being traded to the Giants midway through the 2019 season.

Williams joins a revamped Seahawks defensive line that underwent significant changes in the offseason. Seattle made key signings in free agency, including Jarran Reed, Dre’Mont Jones, and Mario Edwards Jr. Additionally, they acquired Cameron Young and Mike Morris, who is currently on injured reserve, through the draft.

Upon arriving in Seattle, Williams will reunite with former defensive teammates Jamal Adams and Julian Love. Adams, who was also selected as the sixth overall pick, played alongside Williams during their time with the Jets. Love previously spent four seasons with the Giants before joining the Seahawks this offseason.

At 29 years old, Williams has started in seven out of the eight games played this season. He has recorded 21 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one pass defensed, and five quarterback hits. Williams received Pro-Bowl recognition in 2016, where he tallied 7.0 sacks, 68 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 19 quarterback hits. Throughout his career spanning 132 games, he has accumulated 39.5 sacks, 59 tackles for loss, and 162 quarterback hits. In 2020, his first full season with the Giants, Williams achieved career-highs in sacks (11.5), tackles for loss (14), and quarterback hits (30).
