Scientists Reveal which Chat-up Lines to Avoid if you Want to Successfully Land a Date

Avoid These Chat-Up Lines to Increase Your Chances of Landing a Date, According to Scientists

Women seeking a relationship have revealed the type of messages they definitely don’t want to receive on dating apps, according to a study conducted by researchers from Purdue University.

The study, which involved 275 participants (mostly female), found that starting a conversation with a sexually explicit message was a major turn-off, especially for those looking for a long-term relationship.

On the other hand, individuals who opened with a greeting and a question were more likely to receive a positive response.

Interestingly, another group of scientists discovered that tall men prioritize tall women for relationships, but view shorter women as casual flings.

Amanda Lilly, the lead researcher, stated that “Online daters might choose to reserve sending sexually explicit content until they are sure the recipient would appreciate that kind of communication.”

The researchers also found that “Online daters who understand when it is and is not appropriate to use sexually explicit messages may be more effective at attaining their goals.”

The study, published in the journal Personal Relationships, surveyed 275 undergraduate students, of which 66 percent were women. The majority of participants were heterosexual (79 percent), between the ages of 18 and 29 years old, and 64 percent were white.

Each participant completed an online survey providing personal details and scenarios where they received messages from potential partners on a dating app. They were asked if they were seeking a long-term or casual relationship.

Results showed that participants were more likely to respond positively to a message that included a greeting and question mark rather than a sexually explicit message, regardless of whether they were seeking casual flings or a long-term relationship.

The study concluded that even individuals looking for casual hook-ups did not appreciate overly aggressive opening lines. A traditional greeting was favored by all groups.

According to the scientists, although a sexy opening pick-up line is becoming more common, it tends to violate recipients’ expectations in a relationship.
