Researchers have discovered that proteins found in whole-milk plain yogurt work effectively to neutralize the sulfur-based compounds that cause the smell.

A team from Ohio State University conducted an experiment by placing equal amounts of raw garlic in glass bottles, and then adding yogurts with varying fat, protein, and water content.

They found that yogurt was 99% effective at reducing the major odor-producing garlic compounds.
