Scientist asserts that dogs surpass AI in intelligence

AI’s bark may be worse than its bite. With all the fearmongering surrounding artificial intelligence and its capabilities, experts are quick to point out that this advanced technology is nowhere near as smart as your furry friend. Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief AI scientist, made this clear during the VivaTech conference, stating that generative AI is currently “very limited.” Despite the vast amounts of text that these AI systems are trained on, they lack a true understanding of the real world. Unlike humans, AI cannot grasp the non-linguistic aspects of our experiences.

LeCun went on to explain that AI software is far from reaching even the intelligence level of a dog. In fact, experts have no clue how to replicate the cognitive abilities of our four-legged companions using machines. Until this mystery is solved, achieving human-level or even dog-level intelligence will remain an elusive goal.

Interestingly, Demis Hassabis, Google DeepMind CEO, holds a contrasting view. He believes that AI could reach human-level cognitive abilities within the next decade. However, Geoffrey Hinton, considered the Godfather of AI, recently expressed regret over its development and left his position at Google. Meanwhile, many people worry about job security and safety as AI advances at a rapid pace.

It’s worth noting that reproducing human learning capabilities is currently beyond AI’s reach. As a result, achieving human-level, dog-level, or cat-level intelligence with AI is simply not feasible.

Notable figures in the industry, like Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, have also voiced concerns about the potential threats posed by AI. OpenAI’s intelligent chatbot software, ChatGPT, has been tampered with for cheating purposes and has been dubbed the “atom bomb” by Warren Buffett. However, users are starting to realize that despite its capabilities, ChatGPT falls short when it comes to producing quality work. The showrunners of the popular Netflix series “Black Mirror” found that the chatbot could only come up with a subpar script by combining synopses of previous episodes, lacking originality and real creative thought.

In conclusion, while AI may excel in certain areas like passing exams, it still has a long way to go in terms of mastering physical tasks and replicating human intelligence. Its limitations are evident, and until they are overcome, AI will not be able to match the intelligence and creativity of our furry companions or even our own.
