Jess and Connor, an ingenious couple from England, faced the daunting task of renovating their kitchen. However, they were startled by the exorbitant estimates of over $18,000 for the project. “The kitchen was our top priority when we bought this house because its dullness and coldness bothered me,” confessed Jess, 29, in an interview with Jam Press.
“After receiving quotes from multiple places, all ranging around £15,000, we felt that those costs were unjustifiable for such a small space. We decided to take matters into our own hands,” she continued.
The couple turned to popular social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest for inspiration. Armed with newfound knowledge and confidence, they completely transformed their kitchen into a stylish and beautiful area, all within a budget of just $1,800.
Initially, their kitchen flaunted a drab and ordinary aesthetic with gray tiled flooring, silver hardware, and white-painted cabinets.
In order to infuse a fresh atmosphere, Jess and Connor first painted the cupboards with a charming olive green color. Additionally, they replaced the flooring with solid oak wood, conveniently purchased from B&Q, a renowned home improvement store in England.
Speaking to interior brand Ruggable, the couple revealed that their style draws inspiration from various concepts, with an affinity for ’70s earthy color palettes and a preference for natural materials like wood.
However, their bold transformations weren’t limited to paint and floors.
The couple also installed a sleek black sink from IKEA and integrated exquisite gold hardware throughout the kitchen to add the finishing touches. They even replaced their mundane white refrigerator with a secondhand SMEG unit, which cost just over $500.
“By painting the kitchen tiles and cupboards, we completely transformed the space’s appearance,” expressed Jess enthusiastically.
“Simple changes like swapping chrome handles with brass ones added that extra touch,” she added.

“A clear vision helps speed up the messy and time-consuming process. Additionally, investing time in prep work, despite it being the most challenging part, significantly enhances the finish and durability,” she advised.
