Sarah Palin Voices Strong Disapproval of Insurrectionists’ Jail Sentences

The interview with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling failed to acknowledge the significant roles played by members of the Proud Boys gang, namely Zachary Rehl, Joe Biggs, and Ethan Nordean. These individuals were given double-digit sentences after being convicted of seditious conspiracy for their involvement in planning, encouraging, and orchestrating the siege.

Bolling downplayed their participation, characterizing it as “nonviolent” and suggesting that they could have been charged with lesser offenses such as trespassing or vandalism. He even expressed sympathy for the Christmases they will miss with their families.

Former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, recently unsuccessful in her Donald Trump-endorsed bid for the House of Representatives, echoed a narrative common among conservatives that the attempted coup was unfairly treated by the justice system.

Palin responded to Bolling’s examples by expressing her disheartenment and loss of faith in the government. She highlighted the existence of a two-tiered justice system that favors certain individuals based on their political affiliations, causing good people to question the value of being law-abiding citizens.

On Tuesday, Enrique Tarrio, former chairman of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his significant role in leading the operation. He expressed remorse and admitted that he had let down his family.

The insurrection aimed to prevent the certification of President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory and maintain Donald Trump in power. Trump himself now faces four indictments, two of which are related to his alleged involvement in election interference and conspiracy to overturn the results.
