Cattrall, known for her role as Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City,” revealed on the “Today” show that she was asked by the CEO of HBO to return for the cameo. The shooting took only about four hours, and Cattrall described it as a wonderful afternoon. She also mentioned that she doesn’t think she will ever say goodbye to Samantha, as the character has had a significant impact on her.
This cameo comes after a public back-and-forth between Parker and Cattrall regarding Cattrall’s absence from Season 1 of “And Just Like That.” Parker explained in an interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast that Cattrall was not asked to appear in Season 1 because she had made it clear that she didn’t want to pursue it, and it didn’t feel comfortable for the rest of the cast.
In May 2022, Cattrall stated in an interview with Variety that she walked away from the “Sex and the City” franchise because “enough is enough.” She didn’t want to compromise what the show meant to her and saw a clear path forward outside of the franchise. However, during the interview, she acknowledged that being missed as an actor is the greatest compliment she could receive.
Despite her initial statement, it seems that Cattrall’s stance has changed, and she has decided to appear in the spinoff after all.
