On August 24th, also known as “Mamba Day,” the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier will be transformed into a stunning display of Lakers pride in honor of Kobe Bryant. The wheel will be adorned with Laker gold and purple, featuring the numbers 8 and 24, symbolizing the iconic uniform numbers Bryant wore throughout his legendary career.
This dazzling display will be unveiled at sunset, around 7:30 p.m., and will showcase additional messages such as “LA ❤️ 8” and “LA ❤️ 24,” accompanied by a mesmerizing array of gold and purple patterns and transitions. The Ferris wheel, standing tall at 90 feet, will continue to illuminate the night sky until midnight.
This tribute takes place one day after what would have been Bryant’s 45th birthday, providing a poignant remembrance of the basketball legend.
Kobe Bryant, famously known as the “Black Mamba,” tragically passed away on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash in Calabasas. His daughter Gianna, who was only 13 years old, and seven others also lost their lives in the accident.
On his birthday, social media was flooded with tributes to Bryant as fans honored the shooting guard who led the Lakers to five NBA titles and participated in 18 all-star games.

On the other side, a group of children, including Gianna, play basketball atop a giant book, adding a touch of vibrant color to the artwork.
The book depicted in the mural is titled “Epoca,” one of the children’s stories created by Bryant through his Granity Studios company after his retirement from basketball.
Bryant dedicated his entire 20-year career to the Lakers, setting numerous team records along the way. He holds the top spots in categories such as games played, minutes played, field goals, and 3-point goals. Additionally, Bryant is the Lakers’ all-time leading scorer with 33,643 points, surpassing the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
