Santa Clarita Brush Fire in Angeles National Forest Now 50% Contained

A brush fire that broke out in the Santa Clarita area is currently under control, with containment progress reaching 50%, according to authorities.

Known as the Agua Fire, the incident was reported on Tuesday afternoon around Soledad Canyon and Agua Dulce Canyon roads, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire spread into the Angeles National Forest, prompting collaborative efforts between county fire crews and U.S. Forest Service firefighters.

Firefighters faced the challenge of combatting the flames in scorching triple-digit temperatures, resulting in the National Weather Service issuing a heat advisory for the Santa Clarita Valley.

The initial estimate of the fire was 4 acres, but crews at the scene cautioned that it had the potential to expand to 200 acres. Consequently, an additional alarm was promptly raised, bringing more firefighters to the incident.

By 3 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire had reportedly grown to a size between 10 and 13 acres, engulfing medium to heavy brush. Subsequently, it was confirmed to have reached approximately 100 acres.

As of Wednesday morning, the fire had expanded to 421 acres, with a 20% containment rate. On Thursday morning, the forest service confirmed that the size remained unchanged, while containment had improved to 50%. Firefighters continued to diligently extinguish any remaining hot spots.

During firefighting operations, one firefighter sustained minor injuries, receiving appropriate treatment.

The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation and remains unknown.
