Sandra Bullock Opens Up About Career ‘Pause’ Prior to Bryan Randall’s Passing

  • Sandra Bullock’s partner, Bryan Randall, passed away at the age of 57 on Saturday, due to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
  • Randall had been battling ALS for the past three years.
  • Since last year, Bullock has taken a break from her acting career to prioritize spending time with her family.

Sandra Bullock announced a pause in her career to dedicate more time to her family just a year before the passing of her long-term partner, Bryan Randall.

Randall’s family confirmed that the 57-year-old photographer passed away on Saturday, after a three-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease, also known as ALS.

Bullock and Randall, who kept their relationship private, had been in a romantic relationship since 2015.

During the promotion of her recent film, “The Lost City,” Bullock expressed her desire to take a break from acting to prioritize her family.

She told CBS News, “I can be creative, I can be part of a community, but right now, work in front of the camera needs to take a pause.”

The “Miss Congeniality” star emphasized her need to be present with her family instead of constantly being occupied with work.

“I’m not doing anyone any favors who’s investing in a project if I’m saying, ‘I just want to be at home.’ Cause I was always running, I was always running to the next thing. I just want to be present and responsible for one thing,” shared Bullock. “I would just love to clean out the basement.”

She continued, “I have a room where all my stuff goes, from all the years. I want to go through it and see if I remember any of it.”

Bullock stated that she was unsure how long her break from acting would last.

“That’s what’s a little scary about it, I don’t know,” the 59-year-old actor confessed. “Watch: six months from now, I can’t handle this anymore, I need to go back to work. But I don’t want to do that. If that feeling comes, I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to rely on work to fill me. But I just don’t see a lot, other than everyone under my roof. That’s it. I know it’s not very glamorous, but you know what? It’s mine.”

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bullock reiterated her desire to take a break.

“I take my job very seriously when I’m at work,” she said. “And I just want to be 24/7 with my babies and my family.”

Earlier this week, Bullock’s sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, paid tribute to Randall in an Instagram post, highlighting Bullock’s exceptional care for him during his battle with ALS.

“ALS is a cruel disease but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home,” wrote Bullock-Prado.
