Sam Neill reveals his ongoing battle with blood cancer

Popular actor Sam Neill, known for his role in “Jurassic Park,” recently shared his journey with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. After being diagnosed last year, he underwent monthly chemotherapy treatments. However, when these treatments failed, his doctors turned to a new drug that ultimately put him in remission.

While Neill remains in remission, he acknowledges the possibility of his cancer returning.

In an interview with “Australian Story,” Neill expressed his attitude towards his cancer, stating, “I know I’ve got it, but I’m not really interested in it. It’s out of my control. If you can’t control it, don’t get into it.”

Although Neill still requires bimonthly infusions of the anti-cancer drug to maintain his remission, he is mentally prepared for the possibility that it will eventually cease to work.

Neill, who is not afraid of death, finds the side effects of his treatment to be depressing but is determined to continue pursuing his passion for acting.

Last year, Neill discovered his illness while promoting “Jurassic World: Dominion” when he noticed lumps in his neck. A subsequent blood test confirmed his diagnosis.

During his treatment, Neill decided to write a memoir, hoping to leave his children and grandchildren with a lasting memory of himself. He considers it a valuable gift for them, as he may not be around much longer.

Although Neill’s current treatment has provided him with 12 months of remission, his hematologist, Dr. Orly Lavee, suggests they may need to explore alternative options in the future. Despite the challenging side effects, Neill cherishes the ten days of joy and gratitude he experiences after each infusion.
