Rush for Ring Resizing: ‘Ozempic Finger’ Sparks Surge in Jewelers Visits

  • The emergence of “Ozempic finger” adds to the concerns of semaglutide users.
  • People are experiencing shrinking fingers and wrists, prompting them to have their rings and bracelets resized.
  • Semaglutide drugs not only lead to rapid weight loss but also come with numerous harmful side effects.

From “Ozempic body” to “Ozempic face,” the most talked about weight-loss drug has caused a multitude of issues. The latest side effect, known as “Ozempic finger,” has led users to notice a decrease in finger and wrist size, making it difficult to wear jewelry.

Jewelers have reported a 150% increase in customers requesting ring and bracelet resizing since last year, according to the New York Post.

“Typically, the summer is a quiet period for jewelers, but this year we’ve seen a significant influx of clients needing jewelry repairs due to weight loss,” said Melanie Fitzpatrick, co-founder of the jewelry brand LeMel, in an interview with the New York Post.

Resizing jewelry adds an additional expense to the already costly price of weight-loss drugs as well as the surgical fixes for “Ozempic body” and “Ozempic face.”

Other side effects of semaglutide drugs include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, and hair loss. Users have taken to social media to express their grievances about these medications, as previously reported on Insider.

“This illustrates that any medication, even when used properly, can have additional changes or side effects that need to be monitored by the patient and doctor,” stated Eric Goldstein, a Gastroenterologist based in New York, in an interview with Insider.

Ozempic is the brand name for semaglutide, a medication prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It induces satiety, resulting in weight loss, which has contributed to its popularity nationwide.
