Rudy Giuliani Holds Meeting with Prosecutors Investigating 2020 Election

Renowned lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who previously served as President Donald Trump’s attorney, recently engaged in discussions with federal prosecutors investigating Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, as confirmed by NBC News. Giuliani played a key role in leading Trump’s legal campaign to challenge President Joe Biden’s victory before it was officially validated by a joint session of Congress on January 6, 2021.

Giuliani’s voluntary interview with special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutors took place before their meeting with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in Atlanta as part of the ongoing criminal probe. In early January 2021, Trump pressured Raffensperger in a phone call to manipulate votes in Georgia, hoping to overturn Biden’s win in the state. Georgia played a crucial role in Biden’s overall victory in the Electoral College, which was confirmed by Congress.

Days prior to the joint session of Congress, which was disrupted by a mob of Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol, Raffensperger’s office issued a statement asserting Georgia’s commitment to election security, integrity, and access. Ted Goodman, a spokesperson for Giuliani, stated that the meeting between Giuliani and Smith’s prosecutors was voluntary and conducted in a professional manner.

In a separate criminal probe led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Giuliani is reportedly a target of investigation regarding Trump’s efforts to reverse his loss in Georgia. Willis is expected to announce forthcoming charges against Trump and his allies involved in the election-reversal endeavor. Giuliani had previously addressed Georgia lawmakers in December 2020, making claims about election fraud while urging them to appoint pro-Trump electors to the Electoral College.

Recently, Smith obtained a federal court indictment in Florida against Trump, charging him with multiple criminal counts related to retaining classified records and attempting to conceal them with the aid of Walt Nauta after his tenure in the White House. Trump, who is currently seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has pleaded not guilty to these charges. The indictment alleges that Trump kept numerous classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
