Rosmerta’s Groundbreaking Initiative: Establishing 10 Vehicle Scrappage Units with ₹200 Cr Investment

New Delhi: Rosmerta Technologies, an automobile technology and automation firm, has announced plans to invest Rs 200 crore to establish ten vehicle scrappage units within the next three years. Currently, the company operates a vehicle scrapping facility in Manesar, Haryana, with the capacity to process 30,000 vehicles annually. With this expansion, the company aims to increase its processing capacity to 3 lakh vehicles per year.

During an interview with PTI, Kartick Nagpal, President of Rosmerta Technologies, expressed the company’s goal of contributing to the circular economy by recycling three lakh vehicles annually through the establishment of the new scrappage centres. “To achieve this, we are prepared to invest Rs 200 crore throughout India,” he stated.

The Indian government believes that utilizing material output from scrapped vehicles will result in a 33% reduction in raw material costs, reducing reliance on imported metals like aluminium, copper, and rubber. India is the fourth largest manufacturer of passenger vehicles and sixth largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles globally, importing metals worth USD 34.7 billion each year. In August 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the national vehicle scrappage policy to eliminate unfit and polluting vehicles and encourage the adoption of a circular economy. However, despite financial incentives provided by the government to scrap old vehicles and replace them with new ones, over 50 lakh light motor vehicles over 50 years old continue to operate on Indian roads, according to industry estimates.

As a leading manufacturer of high-security registration plates (HSRP), Rosmerta Technologies also operates in intelligent transport management systems, automated testing stations, and automated driving testing tracks, among other areas.
