Rory McIlroy Narrowly Trails Leader in FedEx St Jude Championship Despite Struggles with Putter

Ranked as the world number two, Rory McIlroy enters the weekend just three shots behind Lucas Glover in the first playoff event. McIlroy’s sights are set on winning his fourth FedExCup title, which comes with a lucrative reward of $18 million.

Despite missing several putts ranging from five to 15 feet, McIlroy managed to finish the day tied for eighth place at seven-under. Glover currently leads the field at 10-under, closely followed by Jordan Spieth. Sungjae Im, Taylor Moore, Tommy Fleetwood, Emiliano Grillo, and Tom Kim are tied for third position at eight-under.

On the other hand, Seamus Power faced a challenging day with struggles in his tee shots and overall game. He ended up carding a three-over 73, leaving him tied in 66th place out of 70 players. Power experienced double bogeys on both the 18th and fourth holes, which significantly impacted his performance.

With only the top 50 in the points list qualifying for the upcoming BMW Championship in Chicago, Power is projected to fall from 29th to 38th in the FedExCup standings. McIlroy’s ranking is also expected to drop slightly, placing him in fourth position behind Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Glover.
