Rookie C.J. Stroud is anticipated to have his first taste of preseason action when the Houston Texans take on the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Massachusetts this Thursday. This news was announced by coach DeMeco Ryans. The picture shows Stroud making a throw during a practice session.
Aug. 7 (UPI) — Coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud will be serving as the starter for the Houston Texans in their preseason game against the New England Patriots. This decision was made public via an interview with NFL Network. Earlier in the day, Ryans had already mentioned that Stroud would be getting some playing time against the Patriots.
“Right now, as I see it, our players will have a couple of series depending on how things go,” Ryans informed the reporters when asked about the snap distribution for Thursday’s game. He further mentioned, “[Stroud] will step onto the field as well. Most of our guys will be given a chance to demonstrate their abilities.”
The Texans drafted Stroud as the second overall pick after the Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young at the top spot in the 2023 NFL Draft. Subsequently, the Texans traded up to acquire the third pick and chose linebacker Will Anderson Jr.
Coach Ryans is yet to announce who will be the starting quarterback for the regular season. The other quarterbacks on the roster are Davis Mills, who started 15 games for the Texans last season, and Case Keenum.
The Texans’ preseason game against the Patriots will take place at Gillette Stadium on Thursday at 7 p.m. EDT. The game will be televised on NFL Network. The Texans will then host the Miami Dolphins in their second preseason game on August 19 in Houston, followed by a matchup against the New Orleans Saints on August 27 in New Orleans for their preseason finale.
The Texans will kick off their regular season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 10 in Baltimore.
