Rome Unveils Location Where Caesar Was Assassinated

Discover an exciting new opportunity for tourists in Rome: the chance to explore the very spot where Julius Caesar was famously stabbed on the Ides of March in 44BC. Starting Tuesday, the ancient Largo Argentina site will be open to the public, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with history. This site, below street level, has previously been off-limits, only viewable from a distance behind barriers. However, thanks to funding from Italian luxury jeweler Bulgari, visitors can now venture closer and experience more of the site’s wonders, as reported by the Guardian.

To enhance the visitor experience, Rome has constructed stairs, an elevator, and new walkways, making it easier to access the Sacred Area. Additionally, lights have been installed for nighttime viewing. It’s worth noting that the Sacred Area is also home to a colony of stray cats, adding to the unique ambience of the site. Discovered during the 1920s while demolishing medieval-era buildings, this site is hailed as one of the best-preserved remnants of the Roman Republic, according to Rome’s top official for cultural heritage. Non-residents can purchase admission tickets for a reasonable price of 5 euros, approximately $5.50 (more details available from the AP).
