Rogan, Musk, RFK Jr. Focus on Single Vaccine Scientist

Anthony Fauci, the former target of vaccine opponents, now has a successor in that unwanted role. Dr. Peter Hotez, the dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, has recently been thrust into the spotlight due to his involvement with podcaster Joe Rogan. It all started when Rogan had Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on his show, where Kennedy expressed his longstanding criticism of vaccines. This led to an analysis by Vice, describing the show as a spreader of unchecked vaccine misinformation and criticizing both Rogan and Spotify, the platform where his show is hosted.

  • Hotez showed support for the Vice article by tweeting a link to it. This caught Rogan’s attention, and he challenged Hotez to come on his show and debate Kennedy, offering to donate $100,000 to charity. Investor Bill Ackman then increased the amount to $150,000, and Elon Musk also accused Hotez of being afraid to debate.
  • The situation escalated further when two people showed up at Hotez’s home, and one filmed himself firing questions at the scientist and demanding that he debate Kennedy. Hotez described it as feeling “stalked” and expressed his overwhelming frustration with the constant attacks from the anti-vaccine lobby, referring to the online information as “total whack-a-doodle.”
  • While Hotez has been a guest on Rogan’s show before, he is hesitant to debate on this particular topic. He explained on Twitter that science is not typically something that is debated like philosophy or political issues, and he also expressed concerns about debating Kennedy who tends to shift the goalposts on his concerns about vaccines.
