Tesla chair Robyn Denholm has joined the board of Harrison.ai, an Australian healthcare start-up that specializes in AI-based medical imaging technology. The company aims to expand its presence globally with support from Li Ka-shing’s Horizon Ventures. Harrison.ai’s technology is used for identifying abnormalities in chest X-rays and CT brain scans, providing a “safety net” to clinicians. The company plans to expand into prostate biopsies next year. Denholm’s appointment brings valuable experience in technology and business, and she hopes to contribute to the company’s mission of scaling global healthcare capacity with AI.

Harrison.ai was founded in 2018 by Aengus Tran, a former cardiac surgeon, and his brother Dimitry. The start-up has received significant funding from various sources, including Horizon Ventures, Skip Capital, Sonic Healthcare, and I-MED. Their AI technology is already being used by one in three radiologists in Australia and is undergoing trials in the UK and Asia. It has also received regulatory approval for expansion into the US. Tran envisions Harrison.ai becoming a global leader, emphasizing the scalability of AI technology compared to traditional hiring practices.

The healthcare sector in Australia has seen significant growth, particularly in the biotech industry. According to AusBiotech, there are currently 192 life sciences companies listed on the Australian stock exchange, with a combined market value of A$233bn. Robyn Denholm, hailing from Sydney, has a background in telecoms and technology companies and took over as chair of Tesla in 2018.
