Right-wing film ‘Sound of Freedom’ reportedly supported by accused kidnapper

The incident involving the arrest of one of the crowdfunding supporters of the movie “Sound of Freedom” has sent shockwaves through the fan community. Fabian Marta, a Missouri native, was apprehended by the police on July 21 on charges of felony child kidnapping. Marta, who was the landlord to a woman and child involved in a custody dispute, has vehemently denied any involvement in the alleged crime. His lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, stated that Marta will plead “not guilty” and is confident in his client’s eventual acquittal.

The film’s distributor, Angel Studios, has expressed surprise at Marta’s arrest, claiming they were unaware of his background. Neal Harmon, the CEO of Angel Studios, defended the crowdfunding process, stating that they followed all necessary legal requirements and regulations when allowing nearly 7,000 people to invest in the film. Harmon emphasized that anyone who met the legal criteria could invest, with the added perk of being listed in the movie’s credits. He also commended law enforcement officials for their efforts in combating human trafficking, a problem addressed by the film.

“Sound of Freedom,” which premiered in theaters on July 4, 2023, has been the subject of controversy. Some fans have accused certain cinema chains of intentionally sabotaging screenings of the movie. TikTok user Jamskillet recounted his uncomfortable experience in a theater with no air conditioning, claiming it was unbearably hot. Others have reported incidents of dimming lights and theater occupancy discrepancies. Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theatres, refuted these allegations on Twitter, suggesting that misinformation and haters may be behind the claims.

In addition to these controversies, the film has faced criticism for allegedly promoting pro-QAnon conspiracy theories. Lead actor Jim Caviezel has been accused of spreading false information associated with the conspiracy.
