Revitalized and Exciting: Renault Reintroduces Petrol-Powered Clio Supermini

Renault has brought back the pure-petrol version of their renowned Clio supermini, offering the car at a reduced price of £17,795.

In addition to the option of a full hybrid setup with a 1.6-litre engine and two electric motors, the entry-level model now features a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, previously seen in the Dacia Sandero.

Speaking in April 2023, Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault Brand, emphasized the significance of the Clio to the French company. He stated, “Clio has consistently achieved success. It is the best-selling French car globally and a leading model in Europe.”

“The new Clio showcases its modern appeal through a redesigned front end. The E-Tech full hybrid powertrain delivers a delightful driving experience, lower emissions, and increased range.”

Although the 1.0-litre engine does not transform the base-spec Clio into a hot hatchback, Renault claims that it produces 89 horsepower, enabling a top speed of 111mph.

Compared to the hybrid version, the petrol-powered Clio is slightly less fuel efficient but still achieves a mileage of 56.5mpg.

The introduction of the new engine has reduced the car’s entry-level price by £3,500, undercutting competitors like the popular Vauxhall Corsa.

The petrol-powered Clio benefits from the refreshed styling introduced to the rest of the range in April 2023, giving the car the same front end as larger Renault models.

The prominent diamond-shaped badge remains the centerpiece and now features a more intricate design, surrounded by a larger grille and more pronounced daytime running lights.

Inside, Renault highlights that the new Clio is more sustainable than ever, with recycled materials constituting at least 60 percent of the interior.

Although the petrol engine was not discontinued in certain markets, it was briefly removed from the UK market to fulfill the commitment of offering a complete range of full-hybrids and electric vehicles by 2024.

However, Renault has reintroduced the model in response to the cost-of-living crisis, which has resulted in higher motoring expenses for many individuals.

Nonetheless, the company plans to introduce a selection of fully electric hatchbacks, including the retro-themed Renault 5, by 2025.
