Revealing Documents Uncover Intricate Details Regarding the Delphi Murders and Richard Allen

Richard Allen has confessed multiple times to the murders of Liberty “Libby” German and Abigail “Abby” Williams in jailhouse phone calls to his wife and mother, according to recently released documents. The documents were unsealed after a motion filed by Kevin Greenlee, an attorney and co-creator of the “Murder Sheet” podcast. The newly revealed details shed light on Allen’s alleged confession, the crime scene, and his behavior following the phone call to his wife.

Previously, authorities had released limited information about Allen’s arrest and the video filmed by Libby. However, the probable cause affidavit and the jailhouse phone call between Allen and his wife on April 3, 2023, provided significant evidence against him. In the call, Allen reportedly admitted to kidnapping and killing Abby and Libby. The call ended abruptly when Kathy hung up on him.

After the call, Allen’s mental and physical health deteriorated rapidly. He refused to eat and sleep, destroyed his tablet, and stopped making phone calls. His defense attributed these changes to his declining mental health and requested that he be moved to another facility with psychiatric support. However, prosecutors argued against the move, stating that Allen’s cell conditions were standard and that he had access to clean clothes and three showers a week. They also disputed the portrayal of Allen as frail and unwashed, claiming that a photo taken after his recreation time was used to gain sympathy.

Additional details from the crime scene were also revealed in the documents. The search inventory listed the clothes taken from the scene, including a sock and underwear. Libby’s phone was found beneath her body, and the girls’ wounds were caused by a sharp object, specifically identified as a knife. Furthermore, the search warrant executed at Allen’s home recovered knives, muti-tools, and his Sig Sauer .40-caliber gun, which was linked to the bullet found between the girls’ bodies.

The documents were made public due to the efforts of the “Murder Sheet” podcast, which previously obtained a copy of an FBI warrant in the case. Allen has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his trial is scheduled for January.
