Resumption of Regular Service for Metro Rail A & E Lines

Metro has successfully completed the necessary repairs to the power line system on the Metro A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines in downtown Los Angeles. As a result, regular train service will resume.

During peak hours, trains will run every 10 minutes from Monday to Friday. Off-peak hours and midday service will have trains running every 12 minutes, while after 8 p.m., trains will run every 20 minutes.

Metro ambassadors will be stationed at the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station, Little Tokyo/Arts District Station, Los Angeles Union Station, and Pico Station to inform passengers about the return to normal service.

Metro provided an explanation for the disruption to service on the A and E lines through a series of Tweets posted on Thursday night.

According to Metro, the incident occurred when a train’s pantograph in the A & E line tunnel south of Seventh/Metro became entangled in the overhead metal bar that delivers power to trains. This caused a “major failure” as the power system fell from the ceiling.

Metro had to evacuate the affected train and remove it from the tunnel, along with another train that sustained damage. Repairs began on Wednesday and involved the installation of new wire and replacement parts for the trains’ power system. Two tracks between Pico Station and Seventh/Metro were closed, resulting in both A & E line trains running every 20 minutes. The repairs were completed by Friday morning.
