Request for Gag Order Made by DA in Response to Documentary Interest of Kouri Richins

Kouri Richins, a woman accused of killing her husband and then promoting a children’s book she authored about his death, has reportedly been speaking to a documentary filmmaker while in jail awaiting trial. The Summit County prosecutors are seeking a gag order in the case due to the overwhelming media attention it has received. Richins has garnered international attention since her arrest, including interest from four documentary organizations. Prosecutors allege that Richins has been in direct contact with at least one filmmaker herself. Richins is accused of poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, and faces charges of murder and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. According to court documents, investigators found evidence suggesting Richins intended to kill her husband with drugs. She had also allegedly purchased multiple life insurance policies without her husband’s knowledge, totaling nearly $2 million. Richins self-published a children’s book titled “Are You With Me?” after her husband’s death, which she co-wrote with their son. The book follows a child whose father continues to watch over them after his death.
