Republicans court Wisconsin as Biden visits the key swing state in 2024

On August 11, 2023, U.S. President Joe Biden bid farewell to the White House and boarded Marine One, heading to Delaware. As he waved to the crowd, he prepared for an important visit to Milwaukee, just days before the upcoming Republican presidential debate.

While President Biden’s visit to Milwaukee was significant on its own, it held further significance as it marked the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act. This landmark legislation, which aimed to tackle inflation while promoting clean energy, had already made a noticeable impact on states like Wisconsin, known for their manufacturing prowess.

“Look folks, it’s really quite simple — we made the decision to reinvest in America,” declared President Biden during his speech in Wisconsin.

President Biden’s tour included a visit to Ingeteam, a leading producer of onshore wind turbine generators. The White House announced that Ingeteam expects its orders to double next year, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act.

“Bidenomics and the President’s commitment to investing in America have kickstarted a manufacturing boom, attracting over $110 billion in business investment in clean energy manufacturing,” explained Olivia Dalton, a White House spokesperson, during the journey to the event.

Wisconsin, a crucial swing state where Biden secured victory in the 2020 election after former President Donald Trump’s 2016 win, continues to hold immense significance. The Republicans have chosen Milwaukee as the location for their 2024 convention, with hopes of reclaiming the state.

Furthermore, the first presidential debate of the 2024 cycle will also take place in Milwaukee on August 23. While Trump leads in the polls, his participation in the debate remains uncertain.

President Biden’s visit to Wisconsin, while in his official capacity, did not overlook the state’s vital role in the upcoming presidential election. In an unusual move, the Biden reelection campaign even issued a statement criticizing the Republicans’ track record in Wisconsin.

“In 2020, Wisconsin voters rejected the extreme and divisive MAGA agenda, and this year they also rejected the attacks on choice during the Supreme Court election,” emphasized campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz. “They will do so again in 2024.”

In recent days, President Biden faced criticism for his handling of the devastating wildfires in Maui, which claimed at least 99 lives. Olivia Dalton stated that discussions were underway regarding the timing of Biden’s visit to assess the damage, while President Biden himself expressed his eagerness to travel to Hawaii.

“My wife Jill and I are eager to visit Hawaii as soon as possible. That’s something we’ve been discussing with the governor. However, I don’t want to hinder ongoing recovery efforts. I’ve been to too many disaster areas, but I want to ensure that they have everything they need,” Biden explained.

During his plane ride to Wisconsin, President Biden had conversations with Hawaii Governor Josh Green and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. He promptly approved the governor’s request for an expedited major disaster declaration and reassured the people of Hawaii of the federal government’s unwavering support.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Hawaii, but we offer more than just prayers. We will provide every resource they require. We will stand by them in Maui for as long as it takes,” promised President Biden.
