Steve Harwell, the former lead singer of Smash Mouth, is currently receiving hospice care at home, as confirmed by a representative to CBS News on Sunday.
The artist, known for popular hits like “All Star” and “Walkin’ on the Sun,” is being cared for by his fiancé, according to representative Robert Hayes.
“During this difficult time, we kindly ask that everyone respects Steve and his family’s privacy,” Hayes said in a statement to CBS News.
Harwell was previously diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a type of heart disease.
Smash Mouth was formed in 1994, and Harwell remained with the band until his retirement in 2021. Zach Goode took over as the band’s frontman last year, as stated on Smash Mouth’s website. The band is also recognized for their cover of The Monkees’ classic song, “I’m a Believer.”
At this time, the band has not made any public statements regarding Harwell’s condition.
