Report: New Twitter CEO Initiates Payment of Bills

Twitter’s new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, known as the “Velvet Hammer,” has successfully resolved a conflict with Google over unpaid cloud service bills. Yaccarino, a former executive at NBCUniversal, was brought in by Elon Musk to lead Twitter. The dispute with Google, which had halted Twitter’s payments, has been settled after Yaccarino’s intervention. Sources reveal that Twitter was owing Google around $20 million per month. This development has been reported by the Wall Street Journal.

In addition to the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg also confirms that Twitter has resumed payments to Google Cloud. The cloud services provided by Google are crucial for Twitter’s data analysis and artificial intelligence. Yaccarino engaged in a call with Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian to rebuild the relationship and explore opportunities for collaboration, such as Google’s potential use of Twitter’s API and increased ad spending.

Reinforcing the partnership with Google benefits Twitter, as the company is facing challenges with its advertisers. Recent data shows that Google slashed its US ad spending by over 90% compared to the previous year. However, the process to resolve the unpaid bills with Twitter was not simple. Google Cloud employees initially attempted to contact Elon Musk, but when unsuccessful, they sought assistance from SpaceX, another company owned by Musk.

Apart from the Google issue, Fortune highlights other financial struggles at Twitter. The company is reportedly facing eviction from its Boulder, Colorado office due to non-payment of rent for several months. Similar problems with landlords are also brewing in San Francisco and London. Furthermore, Musk has allegedly failed to pay bills to Oracle and the National Music Publishers’ Association, as well as neglecting payment to both employees and top executives, including former CEO Parag Agrawal.
