According to reports, a clergyman was detained on the Greek island of Rhodes after a tourist accused him of anointing his genitals.

In an article by Dimokrati News on Friday, it was revealed that a 49-year-old priest from the Orthodox Church in Rhodes was taken into custody following a complaint filed by a 30-year-old Estonian visitor. The accusation stated that the priest utilized holy oil inappropriately for the purpose of anointing the tourist’s genitals.

Insider’s request for comments from the Hellenic Police and Rhodes District Court representatives went unanswered as of now.

The tourist claimed that the incident occurred on Thursday morning when he returned to the monastery with his girlfriend to retrieve a forgotten crucifix. The priest allegedly informed the tourist that he had a “special gift” for him in another room.

Upon entering the room, the tourist initially viewed the interaction as a regular procedure. However, he recounted that the priest instructed him to undress in order to receive an anointment with holy oil, states Dimokrati News.

Although confused by the situation, the tourist did not initially request the priest to stop when the latter began applying oil to his body. However, later that day, the tourist filed a complaint at a police station on the island.

The priest reportedly justified his actions by asserting that he anointed the tourist due to a “rash.” The case has now been passed on to the prosecutor’s office of the Rhodes District Court for further investigation.
