Report: Georgia Voting Systems Breach Linked to Trump’s Legal Team

Prosecutors investigating the alleged attempt to overthrow the 2020 election results in Georgia have uncovered evidence connecting members of former President Donald Trump’s legal team to a voting system breach in Coffee County. According to CNN, texts and emails have been obtained by investigators, suggesting that Trump’s lawyers were trying to gain access to the voting systems in order to gather evidence for their unfounded claims of election fraud.

Fani Willis, the district attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, is expected to present her case before a grand jury this week and seek charges against approximately twelve individuals, including those involved in the Coffee County voting systems breach.

In a group chat message dated January 1, an employee from the firm Sullivan Strickler, which was hired by Trump’s legal team, wrote about significant developments in Washington, D.C., mentioning former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and expressing excitement about being granted access to Coffee County’s systems.

Video footage from last year showed Cathy Latham, a GOP county official who posed as a fake elector for Trump, entering the Coffee County elections office with two others on January 7, 2021, the same day the voting machine breach occurred.

According to testimony from a former Trump official during last year’s hearings by the House committee investigating the events of January 6, 2021, Trump and others discussed plans to access voting systems in Georgia. One meeting reportedly took place in the Oval Office on December 18, 2020, with Trump in attendance.

Six days prior to Trump’s team gaining access to the voting systems, Misty Hampton, who was a Coffee County local elections official at the time, sent a “written invitation” to Trump’s lawyers, as per CNN.

Fani Willis has been investigating the alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia, where President Joe Biden won by a narrow margin. Her case will be presented to a Georgia grand jury, which will consider potential charges that could lead to Trump’s fourth criminal indictment this year.
