Report: Disney and Amazon Engage in Discussions for ESPN Streaming Partnership

Amazon is said to be in early discussions with Walt Disney about collaborating on the development of the streaming version of ESPN, and there is even talk of Amazon taking a minority stake in the sports network. Sources have reported this news, but it is still uncertain what the exact pricing for the new service will be. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, has stated that he is determined to retain ESPN while seeking out strategic partnerships.

ESPN is considering setting a subscription price ranging from $20 to $35 per month for their forthcoming streaming service. If they do proceed with this pricing, it will make them the most expensive streaming service available in the US. Reuters reached out to Amazon, Walt Disney, and ESPN for comments, but they have yet to respond. Earlier this year, Bob Iger revealed on CNBC that Disney plans to retain ESPN and explore opportunities for joint ventures or investment from strategic partners to expand its consumer reach.
