A judge has determined that two lawsuits involving former Lizzo employees who accuse the singer of repeated sexual and racial harassment are sufficiently similar for him to preside over both cases.
On Monday, Judge Mark H. Epstein of Santa Monica Superior Court “related” the case filed by ex-Lizzo wardrobe designer Asha Daniels on September 21 to the case brought by former Lizzo dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez on August 1. A case management conference for both cases has been scheduled for January 26.
Daniels’ case was previously assigned to Judge H. Jay Ford III prior to Epstein’s ruling. The lawsuit names Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., her wardrobe manager Amanda Nomura, and her tour manager Carlina Gugliotta as defendants.
Daniels was responsible for designing the wardrobe for the dancers who were set to perform on Lizzo’s 2023 tour. The plaintiff’s claims also include disability discrimination, illegal retaliatory termination, and assault. Daniels is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
