Renault Unveils Affordable Electric Scenic Model Priced Below £40k, Accompanied by a Distinctive Soundscape by an Iconic Electro-Pop Artist

Renowned electro-pop music pioneer Jean Michel-Jarre made an exciting appearance at the launch of the all-electric Renault Scenic family crossover. The event featured a remixed version of Jarre’s groundbreaking album Oxygene, adding a breath of fresh air to the presentation of the battery-powered Scenic E-Tech. Renault aims to make electric cars more mainstream for traditional families with this release, and pricing and specifications for the UK market will be announced in early 2024.

Renault has partnered with Jarre to create a unique sound experience for the new Scenic. The drivetrain sound, which alerts pedestrians, and the welcoming sound when the owner opens the door, have been composed by Jarre himself. Known for his album Oxygene, which sold over 18 million copies in 1976, Jarre brings his expertise to enhance the audio quality of Renault’s fifth-generation Scenic.

The launch took place at the IAA Mobility international motor show in Munich, where Renault stood out as one of the few non-German car manufacturers present. The new Scenic represents a reinvention of the iconic model, starting with its striking design, spacious cabin, and pure-electric drivetrain. The car comes in three trim levels: Techno, Esprit Alpine, and Iconic.

In terms of powertrain options, customers can choose between a 125kW motor with a 60kWh battery pack, providing a range of 260 miles, or a 160kW motor with an 87kWh battery pack for a longer range of 379 miles. Sustainability is also a key focus for Renault, with 24% of the Scenic E-Tech electric’s materials being recycled, and 90% of its mass, including the battery, being recyclable. The car is also leather-free, utilizing alternative materials with a smaller carbon footprint instead.

To create an immersive sound experience, Jarre and his team collaborated with Renault’s premium sound supplier, Harman-Kardon, to develop an advanced audio system for the Scenic E-Tech electric. Additionally, the car features a large panoramic glass roof, adjustable interior lighting, and an OpenR Link multimedia system with Google integration.

To simplify the charging process and optimize performance, the Scenic E-Tech electric includes a powerful onboard electronic journey planner that considers battery pre-conditioning requirements and weather information. Over 30 advanced driver assistance systems, including a new ‘Safety Coach,’ ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.

The new Scenic E-Tech electric will be available for purchase in 2024, with prices expected to start below £40,000. This release signifies Renault’s commitment to electric mobility and its dedication to providing families with a spacious, sustainable, and technologically advanced crossover.
