The passing of beloved former Seattle weather anchor, Steve Pool, has left a void in the hearts of many. Pool, who battled Alzheimer’s disease, retired after nearly 50 years at KOMO News. His wife announced his passing on Facebook, revealing that he had fought the disease privately for several years.
According to KOMO News, Pool graduated from Tyee High School in Seattle, attended the University of Washington, and then began his career at KOMO as a writer. He eventually transitioned to become a beloved weather anchor.
In 2019, after 40 years in broadcasting, Pool retired, leaving behind a legacy that included seven Emmy awards, a Sigma Delta Chi Society of Professional Journalism award, gold and bronze medals from the New York International Film Festival, and many other accolades. He was also part of a news team that won the Edward R. Murrow Award for the best newscast in America.
His wife’s heartfelt tribute emphasized that Pool loved his job and the Seattle community, feeling privileged to be a part of people’s lives. She asked for prayers for their family as they navigate this difficult loss.
Steve Pool is survived by his wife Michelle and his two daughters Lindsey and Marissa. His impact on Seattle and the world of broadcasting will not be forgotten.
