Remembering Preacher Steve: A Legacy of Gratitude

November 23rd — TRIAD — Thanksgiving always held a special place in Preacher Steve’s heart. He found gratitude in his heart as a former outlaw biker, thankful for his salvation and the opportunity to share the word of Jesus with those in need. Steve Ervin, also known as “Preacher Steve,” cherished Thanksgiving day and the chance to assist the less fortunate.

However, this year will be the first Thanksgiving without Preacher Steve who passed away on November 4th at the age of 76. His absence will leave a notable void in the Thanksgiving meal giveaway organized by His Laboring Few Ministries since 1992.

According to Steve’s wife Carolyn, “The ministry went on 365 days a year, but he especially loved Thanksgiving because he enjoyed seeing people get help.” His son, Carlos, expressed, “The ministry has not stopped just because my daddy has gone on to see Jesus.”

Before he took on the role as the public face of His Laboring Few Ministries, Steve lived life on the edge working as a part of an infamous outlaw motorcycle club. However, his life took a transformative turn after accepting Jesus. Alongside his wife Carolyn, they committed to helping troubled individuals and eventually founded His Laboring Few Ministries.

Always proud of his faith and not deterred by his unconventional looks, Steve took up the mantle to assist fellow bikers, the homeless, and people battling various adversities. His Laboring Few has become an instrumental organization for the less fortunate, providing support through food programs, rehabilitation, and spiritual guidance.

The impact of the ministry was deepened even when Steve suffered from memory loss a decade ago. He managed to restore his faith and carried on with the ministry, bringing solace and spiritual assistance to those in need despite his challenges.

Before his passing, Steve voiced his wishes for His Laboring Few Ministries’ continued operation, stressing that “It’s not about me — it’s never been about me. It’s all about Jesus.”

The spirit of Preacher Steve lives on through the Thanksgiving meal giveaway today at the His Laboring Few Ministries’ Southside Mission, where family and friends will continue serving the needy and proclaiming the message of Jesus.
