Remembering Mike Williams: Tragic Passing of Former NFL Wide Receiver at 36 after Construction Accident

The passing of former NFL wide receiver Mike Williams, at the age of 36, has left the sports world in shock. Williams tragically lost his life after a construction accident in Tampa, Florida. Despite being taken off life support at a local hospital, the injuries sustained from the accident proved fatal. Williams’ agent, Hadley Engelhard, confirmed the heartbreaking news to CNN.

According to Engelhard, Williams was performing electrical work when the accident occurred, leading to severe injuries that required immediate hospitalization.

“He will be missed. He fought hard his whole life. Prayers to his family,” Engelhard expressed, paying tribute to the late wide receiver.

Williams entered the NFL in 2010 after being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round. He quickly made an impact, earning recognition as the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year runner-up. Throughout his career, Williams showcased his skills by catching 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns during his rookie season. He played all 16 games for the Buccaneers.

Both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Syracuse Orange expressed their condolences on the tragic loss of Williams.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of Mike Williams. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the Buccaneers posted on social media.

John Wildhack, the director of athletics at Syracuse, delivered a statement offering condolences. He said, “We’re deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former Syracuse student-athlete Mike Williams. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Mike’s family, friends, and the entire Syracuse football community.”

After spending four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams was traded to his hometown team, the Buffalo Bills, for one season. He later signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016 before being released just four months later.

In his NFL career, Williams accumulated 223 receptions for 3,089 yards and 26 touchdowns across 63 games.
