Matthew Perry’s private funeral took place on Friday afternoon, with the presence of his “Friends” co-stars and loved ones.
According to People, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Lisa Kudrow gathered for the event at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Notable icons like Paul Walker, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and Nipsey Hussle also rest at this location. The funeral began at 3 p.m. and concluded at 5 p.m.
On October 28, Perry passed away at the age of 54. Two days later, his “Friends” co-stars released a joint statement expressing their sorrow for the loss of their fellow cast member.
“We are devastated by Matthew’s departure. We were more than just colleagues; we were a family. There is so much to say, but for now, we will take a moment to grieve and process this unimaginable loss. In due time, we will share more as we are able. Currently, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, friends, and all those who adored him around the world.”
Perry openly discussed his battles with alcohol and drug addiction following his rise to fame in the ’90s. He became addicted to Vicodin and sought rehabilitation after a jet ski accident in 1997. Later on, he transformed his Malibu property into a sober living facility. A foundation bearing his name was established earlier on Friday, accepting donations to assist individuals struggling with addiction.
“When I pass away, I hope the first thing people mention is not ‘Friends’; I hope it’s about helping others,” Perry expressed during an interview on the “Q With Tom Power” podcast in 2022 while promoting his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.” He continued, “I will spend the rest of my life demonstrating that. Addiction is too formidable for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can overcome it.”
