Relative of Uvalde Shooter Taken Into Custody Following Accusations of Threatening Behavior

A relative of the perpetrator who carried out a tragic mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, resulting in the deaths of 19 students and two teachers, has been arrested after his concerned family alerted the police about his threats to “do the same thing.”

On Monday morning, the 17-year-old teenager was taken into custody on suspicion of making a terroristic threat to a public place. His mother contacted the authorities, stating that her son had made alarming statements to his sister, indicating his intention to commit a mass shooting at an elementary school near their residence in San Antonio.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by HuffPost, the teenager’s sister reported that he threatened to shoot her and made disturbing comments about shooting up the school when it starts. The warrant emphasized that the sister genuinely feared for her life and believed the threat to be credible, considering their family’s history and the suspect’s knowledge of his cousin’s actions.

In May 2022, an 18-year-old named Salvador Ramos shot and killed his grandmother before proceeding to Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, where he carried out the devastating shooting using an AR-15 rifle. Law enforcement officers later killed Ramos.

The mother of the San Antonio teenager revealed to officers that she had overheard him attempting to purchase an AR-15 during a phone conversation. However, it remains unclear who he was speaking with. Selling a firearm to anyone under 18 years old is illegal in Texas.

The arrest warrant also mentioned that the teenager was on probation at the time of the incident, and his mother informed the police that he was intoxicated when he made the threats.

Following his mother’s call to the police, the teenager was promptly taken into custody. However, he denied making any threats, as stated in the arrest warrant.

Currently, the teenager awaits indictment according to Bexar County court records. The Bexar County public defender’s office declined to provide any comment on the case.
