Record-breaking Nets’ Thomas achieves 30-pt. trifecta as the season kicks off

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Cam Thomas Shines with 33-Point Performance as Brooklyn Nets Secure Their First Win of the Season

Cam Thomas has done it again! The talented young player scored an impressive 33 points, marking his third consecutive 30-point game at the beginning of this season. On Monday night, the Brooklyn Nets took on the Charlotte Hornets and emerged victorious with a 133-121 win.

Despite missing key players like Cam Johnson (calf strain) and Nic Claxton (ankle sprain), the Nets adapted by employing a small lineup, which turned out to be a winning strategy.

As usual, 22-year-old Cam Thomas played a pivotal role in the Nets’ dominance on the court. In fact, he has now become the second-youngest player in NBA history to achieve three consecutive 30-point games at the start of a season, with only Shaquille O’Neal ahead of him.

The Hornets struggled to defend against the individual brilliance of Thomas, Mikal Bridges (24 points), Lonnie Walker IV, and Dorian Finney-Smith (19 each). With the Nets shooting an impressive 56.3% from the field, their one-on-one defense was routinely exposed.

“Our spacing on the court was the key,” Thomas explained. “Playing small ball and adopting a five-out approach created numerous driving lanes for us. The opposition’s bigs were pulled out, giving us guards plenty of opportunities to attack the paint.”

This performance was the ninth time in Thomas’ career that he reached the 30-point mark. If he accomplishes this feat just one more time, he will join an elite group of Nets players with 10 career 30-point games at the age of 23 or younger, including Bernard King (35), Stephon Marbury (14), D’Angelo Russell (13), and Brook Lopez (10).

Thomas shared that he is now becoming more comfortable in his third NBA season, and coach Jacque Vaughn expressed his admiration for the forward’s development.

“Cam has shown his scoring prowess without forcing it,” Vaughn praised. “He seamlessly integrates his offensive contributions into the flow of our game plan. Yet, when it’s necessary, he can step up and deliver crucial baskets. His ability to read the game and know when to score and when to facilitate is truly impressive.”
