LONDON — The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) announced on Wednesday that the total prize money for this year’s Wimbledon Championships has reached a record 44.7 million pounds ($56.52 million), which is 11.2% higher than 2022.

Both the winners and runners-up of the men’s and women’s singles finals will receive prize money at the levels seen in 2019. The men’s champion will be awarded 2.35 million pounds, while the women’s champion will receive 1.175 million pounds.

In 2021, the prize money for winners dropped to 1.7 million pounds but was increased to 2 million pounds last year.

The qualifying competition prize fund has also seen a 14.5% increase from the previous year, and players who lose in the first round will receive at least 55,000 pounds, a 10% increase from 2022.

“We are pleased to offer record prize money to the players participating in this year’s Championships, with double-digit increases across most events,” said AELTC chairman Ian Hewitt.

“Our goal with this distribution is to return the prize money for the singles champions and runners-up to the levels seen in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, while also providing deserving support to players in the early rounds of the tournament.”

The grasscourt Grand Slam event will take place from July 3-16.
