Recapping the Fashion Moments of Episode 11 in ‘And Just Like That…’ as Samantha Returns

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Episode 11 of “And Just Like That…” Season 2.

After 11 episodes filled with glamorous fashion choices and dramatic moments, Season 2 of “And Just Like That…” has concluded.

In the season finale, Carrie (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) throws a farewell party for her apartment. Most of her close friends gather, except for Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), who appears briefly in a 75-second scene to explain her absence. Throughout the episode, the characters confront the consequences of their romantic relationships, with Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) questioning the nature of her relationship with Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez).

Throughout the season, the Styles desk has frequently discussed the show’s costumes. Before the final episode, the team gathered to discuss Carrie’s pet cat, Samantha’s return, and whether the extravagant fashion choices in the show were worth it.

Katie Van Syckle: The cat’s name is Shoe!

Jeremy Allen: As predicted, the cat foreshadowed the emptiness of Gramercy Park. I even think Shoe might be spelled as Chou, like Choupette.

Vanessa Friedman: Shoe, or Chou, is a satisfying pet name and quite predictable. It’s almost as predictable as the news of the show’s renewal for a third season.

Maybe that’s why it’s hard for me to not see this as a turning point. Carrie is staying in her new apartment no matter what, and all the characters seem to have settled into a consistent visual style, as seen in their outfits during the final gathering.

It’s as if they have reached a new phase in their lives.

Louis Lucero II: I understand what you mean about the visual consistency at the last gathering, but it also feels like a step-up in each character’s personal style.

VF: I agree. Miranda seems to have finally found a balance, symbolized by her asymmetric caped dress, just like her newfound balance with her exes. The same goes for Seema in her silver lurex halter dress, reflecting her willingness to take risks in relationships, and Nya with her bold prints.

Even Carrie, whose accessory sleeves I find peculiar (if you want a sleeveless dress, why buy one with sleeves?), looked stylish in her silver and black checkerboard dress, moving away from her usual quirkiness. It’s a step forward.

Callie Holtermann: Each outfit offered a glimpse into the character’s next journey. Miranda, in her garnet dress, smoothly transitions into a TV appearance on BBC. It’s a more mature and sophisticated Miranda, compared to the beginning of the season when she wore a green bucket hat covered in seaweed.

LL: The men also embraced their own styles. Giuseppe’s band collar and rumpled chambray jacket perfectly embody the image of a poet at a dinner party. Ravi, Seema’s lover, looks like a movie star from a different era, negotiating shooting permits in a double-breasted suit and a knotted scarf.

CH: The dinner outfits were fabulous, but many viewers might be more focused on Samantha’s attire, or lack thereof.

When Samantha calls Carrie, she is seen wearing a bright red dress with a metallic jacket. Despite the distance between them, both women are carrying Fendi bags.

LL: After all the anticipation for Kim Cattrall’s cameo in the season finale, I’m not sure it lived up to the hype.

VF: That whole Samantha moment felt like a quick fix to me.

LL: You’re right, it was a quick fix. There was a lot of talk about how Kim Cattrall wanted to be dressed by the original “Sex and the City” costume designer, Patricia Field. But from what we could see of Samantha in the back of that car, nothing felt particularly fresh.

JA: The fact that Samantha’s look was relatively understated might actually be a bold move.

CH: In the episode, Miranda asks Che whether their relationship was a “good train wreck” or just a train wreck. We’ve had similar thoughts about the costumes in this series.
