Recap of the Season 2 Finale of ‘And Just Like That…’

Finally, Samantha Jones has made her long-awaited return. We have anxiously anticipated this moment throughout the entire season. I must admit, I had a fleeting thought that she might just have a brief interaction with Carrie over the phone. However, I believe that the writers and Kim Cattrall handled this moment perfectly. I was satisfied with the call. Although, I was taken aback when, after the call, Carrie expressed, “That’s enough drama for the day,” while talking to her cat. Was that a direct reference to Cattrall? — Erin

Erin, I must watch this again now!!!

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by this scene. I didn’t know what to expect from Samantha’s cameo, but everyone involved executed it flawlessly given the circumstances. It contained delightful nods to the original series and the first movie. I’m relieved they placed it at the beginning, as it would have left us wondering, “Where is Samantha Jones?!” throughout the entire episode.

Considering the real-life drama between the actors, what I’m about to say may never be resolved, but it seemed unrealistic for Samantha to not immediately fly to New York. It reminded me of a comparable situation in the first season when Samantha sent Carrie flowers instead of attending Big’s funeral, which would never have happened. Samantha would have been on the first flight from London as soon as she heard. One thing Samantha Jones always does is show up for her friends. In the first movie, when Carrie moved, Samantha arrived with two bottles of Champagne, and the four of them spent days packing up Carrie’s apartment together while we enjoyed a fantastic montage of Carrie’s outfits over the years. Nevertheless, I understand that this was probably the best way to make it make sense given the circumstances. — Marina

I screamed when Samantha’s scene came on at the beginning of the episode. I wasn’t prepared for it to happen so early. Naively, I thought the interaction would have more significance for the story or move the plot forward in some way. After it ended, I couldn’t help but wonder, “What was the point?”

I also wish there had been more storytelling leading up to this moment, explaining how Carrie and Samantha reconciled. I guess we can assume they worked things out when Carrie was in Paris at the end of last season, but I prefer not to have to fill in so many gaps myself. — Lydia

Samantha’s appearance was a perfect 74 seconds, as far as I’m concerned, and I’ve already rewatched it at least 25 times, if not more. Despite the attempts by the actors and writers to downplay it in the media after news of Kim Cattrall filming the scene leaked, it turned out to hold more substance than I expected. I adored the Annabelle Bronstein reference, the outfit, the bag, and the sweet kiss at the end. I loved every bit of it.

Naturally, this scene was pure fan service, and there’s no denying it. I, too, had hoped it would connect to the overall storyline of the episode in a more significant way. Just imagine how profound it would have been if Samantha had called Carrie immediately after whatever happened with Aidan at the end. It might be too optimistic, but I’d like to think of it as an olive branch that sets the stage for Kim to occasionally pop in throughout the series. However, if this truly serves as Samantha’s final goodbye, I will be satisfied. — Curtis
